Children who become lost or separated have the best chance of being found if they remain in one place. This is the main tenant of the National Association of Search and Rescue’s Hug-A-Tree program.
For over 30 years, NASAR’s Hug A Tree program has given young children the tools and knowledge to survive getting lost in the woods. The program was developed to educate children in a select few of the most basic and vital survival principles. It was specifically designed for children between the ages of 7 and 11 but can be effective with slightly younger and older children.
Now, in a combined effort, NASAR and TMRU have developed and built a companion item for the program – The Hug A Tree Kids Kit. The Kit has all the recommended items from the Hug A Tree course plus some extras. All assembled in a waterproof case with a carabiner clip.
The contents of this kit will help your child remain in one place and increase the chance of being found.
This kit is made and assembled in the USA by the volunteer members of Tacoma Mountain Rescue. A great gift for a parent or child who is active in the outdoors and the perfect companion to the course. At only $10 (plus shipping), this is a gift that may someday truly make a difference in a child’s life. And, 100% of the proceeds go to the important, life-saving work and educational programs of the NASAR and TMRU.
More information about the Hug a Tree Program is available at the National Association of Search and Rescue page.
